Rookie Profile: Jase McClellan, Running Back, Atlanta Falcons

Welcome to the Rookie Profile: Jase McClellan, a 4-star running back recruit from Aledo High School in Aledo, Texas. McClellan was an All-American in 2020 after posting nearly 6500 rushing yards and 122 touchdowns over his impressive high school career. He committed to the University of Alabama.

As a part of the Crimson Tide’s backfield, McClellan was brought along slowly. During his freshman and sophomore seasons, he played behind several successful NFL backs Najee Harris, Brian Robinson, and Jahmyr Gibbs. He was finally given the chance to lead a committee in 2023, however, he was only able to achieve modest production in both the running and receiving game.

McClellan is an intriguing prospect who can become an NFL success. But given his lack of playing time and production in one of the nation’s best programs, it’s a mystery just how he’ll best develop at the next level.

Jase McClellan

Draft Capital & Landing Spot

Draft Capital- Round 6, 186th Overall

  • McClellan being drafted by an NFL team is a win for his value. As mentioned, he played behind many successful NFL backs while at Alabama. Still, a later Day 3 pick is unlikely to make an impact at the next level.

Landing Spot- Atlanta Falcons

  • The Falcons obviously don’t have much of a need at running back. Still, they took McClellan as the clear-cut third back in their room, and one who could carve out a small role. While we know Bijan Robinson is the unquestioned bell cow and Tyler Allgeier is capable, McClellan could earn spot work on 3rd downs if he can improve his pass catching and, more importantly, pass protection.

Fantasy Impact

There’s not much of an impact to speak of here. McClellan is unlikely to make any noise in Atlanta. Thankfully for him, though, there is nothing much at all behind him in the RB room for the Falcons. His roster spot appears secure, assuming he can find a role on special teams in year 1. Beyond leagues with deep benches and big bonuses for return yards, he’s off my fantasy radar.
