2024 Dynasty Fantasy Football- A View to a Pick (1.02)

The much anticipated NFL Draft is now a thing of the past and rookie draft season is in full swing. For most fantasy players, their draft is the best part of the season. If you aren’t prepared though, this enjoyable experience can quickly become overwhelming. There is no truer time than in rookie drafts where many fantasy managers are unfamiliar with a large portion of the rookie pool. A View to a Pick is here to help you by guiding you through a typical 3-round Rookie Draft to see which players they chose, and what some pivot options could be.

So, let’s take a look at A View to a Pick (1.02). Below is the Sleeper Draft Board from our mock draft which will feature Aaron St. Denis, Jeremy Shulman, SC Romero, and Jesse Moeller. The was a superflex, tight-end premium draft.

Rookie Pick 1.02

Aaron Selects: Marvin Harrison Jr, Wide Receiver, Ohio State.

This pick may have been a slam dunk for many drafters, but not for me. I’m a firm believer in taking the elite quarterbacks in superflex no matter how good the “generational” receiver or running back is. In this instance, I chose to go with the elite receiver as the quarterbacks outside of Williams seemed to be significantly riskier than Harrison Jr.

There is going to be much debate early in drafts this year as any of the top three players could conceivably be drafted in any order, but for now, the potential stud receiver was too good to pass up. The possibility of trading down with a QB-needy team to the 1.03 and drafting Harrison Jr third overall is a strategy I would attempt to employ in actual rookie drafts, but with no trades allowed in a mock, I was forced to select the best player.

Rookie Pick 2.02

Aaron Selects: Bo Nix, Quarterback, Oregon.

This point in the draft has seen a real drop off in talent. The studs have long since gone off the board and by this pick flawed running backs and second-tier receivers are being selected. Instead, I opted to select a flawed quarterback who landed in a situation where he could be a starter from Week 1. Nix is far from a sure thing and was QB5 in my Pre-Draft ranking, but he lands in a far better scenario than that of Drake Maye who was selected by New England.

This is an upside pick and nothing more. I could just as easily select my favorite receiver left on the board in hopes they hit, but if Nix hits, he will have far more superflex value than any receiver or running back in this range. This is a home run swing with a relatively low downside, even if Nix doesn’t play well, he should still maintain second-round value long enough to flip him for another player or pick during the season.

Rookie Pick 3.02

Aaron Selects Javon Baker, Wide Receiver, UCF.

It’s officially dart-throwing time at this point. I chose to throw my dart at New England Patriots wide receiver Javon Baker. At this point in the draft, the name of the game is finding players with a pathway to opportunity. Ja’Lynn Polk could be the WR1 for New England, but it could just as easily be Baker, so I will buy the discount and hope I hit the winning late-round lottery ticket.

There were a handful of other options here at both wide receiver and running back, and even some tight ends who are intriguing. This pick is simply a matter of personal preference. If you have a guy you believe in, go get your guy even if you think it’s too early.
