Rookie Profile: Keon Coleman, Wide Receiver, Buffalo Bills
Welcome to the Rookie Profile for Keon Coleman, a Wide Receiver out of Florida State. He is from Opelousas, Louisiana, and was a 4-star recruit from Opelousas Catholic High School. He was highly recruited in football and basketball and played in 5 games for the Michigan State basketball team as a freshman.
In 2021, as a freshman, Coleman appeared in 10 games for the Michigan State Spartans, hauling in 7 receptions for 50 receiving yards and 1 touchdown, while splitting his time between the two sports.
He took a step forward as a sophomore in 2022 where he appeared in 12 games for the Spartans and caught 58 passes for 798 yards and 7 touchdowns en route to a huge breakout against tough Big 10 competition.
Coleman would transfer to Florida State after his sophomore year, stating he wanted a fresh start with the Seminoles. He immediately showed excellent chemistry with Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis. However, that chemistry didn’t lead to an increase in productivity as he regressed to 50 receptions for 658 yards while seeing his touchdown total climb to 11.

Draft Capital & Landing Spot
Draft Capital- Round 2 Pick 33
- Coleman got far better draft capital than anyone could have expected. For a player who is so raw, it just goes to show both how high NFL teams are willing to draft a prototypical receiver and how desperate the Bills are for a potential X-receiver.
- This is a hefty investment for a receiver who was widely viewed as a long-term project, but it should allow him plenty of opportunities to blossom. He may not have gone in the first round, but the first pick of the second round is a massive win for Coleman’s long-term value.
Landing Spot- Buffalo Bills
- The Buffalo Bills are the Holy Grail of fantasy receiver landing spots. Aside from maybe Kansas City, this will be the most hyped-up landing spot imaginable.
- This offseason the Bills lost both Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis and are now devoid of any talent at wide receiver whatsoever. If Coleman has any level of talent in him and shows any signs of life out of training camp, he should be the WR1 from Week 1 on.

Coleman was not someone who was particularly high up in the rookie receiver rankings before the draft, but that all changed quickly. When he went 33rd overall to the Buffalo Bills, he went from a second or even third-round rookie pick to a player pushing for a first-round pick.
This is now the definition of high risk and high reward. Coleman could very easily find himself as the next Jalen Reagor. He was drafted higher than expected and landed in the perfect situation. Those two factors are going to create the perfect storm of hype.
The problem with the hype is, that it will drive his draft cost up so high that he likely can’t exceed expectations. The situation and draft capital are excellent, but I fear the talent is just average and will not be enough to take advantage of this prime opportunity.
