Rookie Profile: Jamari Thrash, Wide Receiver, Cleveland Browns

Welcome to the Rookie Profile: Jamari Thrash, a Wide Receiver from Louisville. Thrash was a 3-star prospect out of Troup County High School in Lagrange, GA.

Thrash originally committed to Georgia State in January of 2019. He did not have his breakout year until his 4th year. Through 12 games in 2022, he posted 61 receptions, 1,122 yards, and 7 touchdowns. His breakout year led him to become First-Team All-Sun Belt.

After his breakout, he transferred to Louisville for his fifth collegiate year. In 12 games with the Cardinals, he had a career-high 63 receptions. However, he saw a slight yardage dip with only 855 yards. Plus, he had one less touchdown than the previous year. Thrash still became part of the Second-Team All-ACC in his one year with Louisville.

Draft Capital & Landing Spot

Draft Capital- Round 5 Pick 21 (156)

  • Given the draft capital it is likely that Thrash begins his NFL career on special teams. Luckily, he has speed and elusiveness to avoid tackles. This added with his shifty route running could have him sneak up the depth chart in Cleveland.

Landing Spot- Cleveland Browns

  • I loved watching Thrash play, however, Cleveland is loaded in their wide receiver room. The top 3 targets seem to be set with Amari Cooper, Jerry Jeudy, and Elijah Moore. The WR4 spot is up for grabs.
  • David Bell and Cedric Tillman will look to craft their role in the offense too. Jamari’s quick feet and ability to beat defenders over the top could gain him some extra playing time. We could see Thrash in the slot or playing on the outside as a speedy field stretcher.

Fantasy Impact

In his first season, Jamari Thrash will be nothing more than a taxi player. He may have one, maybe two, weeks of boom production. It will not be enough to move him out of your taxi rosters. Thrash has the skill level to beat defenders in multiple ways. That is not the issue. As mentioned above, the Cleveland Browns have multiple wide receivers that can make an impact on the field. At least 5 of them will likely see more opportunity than Thrash in his first season. I love him as a late-round target to stash for upcoming seasons. On the other hand, if your league has points for special teams then we may see Thrash have some decent production. Nothing is set in stone until week one. Thrash may be used as a kick returner in which, depending on the scoring of your league, he could hold more value than just a taxi player.
