Quarterback Matchups
Must Start: This is going to be a wonderful week for Kyler Murray. He has been solid through the first three weeks of the season and faces the Washington Commanders in Week 4. The Commanders rank as the best matchup for opposing quarterbacks and are allowing a whopping 24.4 fantasy points per game to the position. Murray has a legitimate QB1 overall upside in this matchup and is a must-start in all formats.
Must Sit: Nix started to show signs of life in Week 3 as he made a large leap forward to being a playable starting quarterback. Unfortunately, this is not a situation to ride the hot hand as he gets a Week 4 matchup with the New York Jets who are the second-worst matchup for opposing quarterbacks and are limiting them to 9.6 fantasy points per game. There will be opportunities to start Nix in the future, but this is not one of them. Leave him on your bench in a brutal matchup for a rookie quarterback.
Running Back Matchups
Must Start: Singletary has been excellent this season while flying under the radar for fantasy managers. He has a stranglehold on this starting job with no real competition from Tyrone Tracy Jr. In Week 4 he will face the Dallas Cowboys who are easily the best matchup for opposing running backs as they are giving up an average of 34.4 fantasy points per game to the position. Singletary may be living on some unsustainable touchdown luck, but that doesn’t figure to change against a Cowboys defense that couldn’t stop a high school running back.
Must Sit: Walker has been dealing with an injury and increased competition from Zach Charbonnet. To make matters worse, he gets a Week 3 matchup with the Detroit Lions who are the worst for opposing running backs. The Lions are allowing only 8.0 fantasy points per game to the position and rushing for more than 50 yards is a tall task for even the best of running backs. This scenario looks to be one where Walker is in store for a dud performance and needs to remain on your bench even if he’s healthy enough to play. That goes for Zach Charbonnet as well.
Wide Receiver Matchups
Must Start: Harrison Jr began his ascension to the top of the wide receiver rankings in Week 2 and will look to take another step towards superstardom this week against the Washington Commanders who are the best of matchups for opposing receivers. The Commanders are allowing almost eight points per game more to the position than any other team and are going to allow the Cardinals passing game to explode for the Arizona Cardinals. fire up Harrison Jr in all formats as he could be in store for the first WR1 overall finish of his young career.
Must Sit: Wilson has gotten off to a slow start this season and that figures to continue this week. The Jets will face the Denver Broncos in Week 4 and they are allowing the fewest fantasy points to opposing receivers. The Broncos have limited the position to only 14 points per game and with Patrick Surtain likely to shadow the Jet’s star receiver, it’s a great week to steer clear of him altogether. This may not be possible in all situations obviously, but if you can’t sit him, you should lower your expectations. He is a WR3 at best in this matchup.
Tight End Matchups
Must Start: Kmet is easily the riskiest of the four must-start players in this article, but with the tight end position in shambles it’s a risk you may have to take. With Keenan Allen out of the lineup, Kmet has received the biggest boost in the Bear’s offense. This week the Chargers go up against the Rams who are allowing 12.1 fantasy points per game to opposing tight ends and rank as the fourth-best matchup for the position. If Allen is out of the lineup once again, you can take the risk and fire up KMet as a mid-range TE1.
Must Sit: Goedert went ballistic in Week 3 against the Saints, but the NFC South rival Buccaneers are nowhere as favorable for tight ends. Tampa Bay ranks as the fourth-worst matchup for opposing tight ends and is limited the position to only 3.2 fantasy points per game. Goedert can still be started because the position is so bad, but don’t expect an encore performance from last week.
