Welcome to Overreaction Monday: Week 7, where we look at some of the biggest narratives from the NFL season thus far. As usual, Week 6 gave us plenty more to overreact to… so let’s get to it.
You Should Risk It All to Acquire Tyrone Tracy
Not all of it… but most of it.
We’re talking about FAAB, waiver priority, whatever you got, you need to spend it on Tracy. And at 56% ownership on Sleeper, it’s possible he’s still available in your league. You need to check.
Here’s why: In the two games that running mate Devin Singletary has missed this season, Tracy has a +60% snap share and is hovering around RB1 status in half ppr leagues. He finished as the RB16 bin Week 5 and is currently the RB7 in Week 6 before Monday night. It’s all lining up for Tracy to dominate beyond this week, and yet people still need to see it:
I get it. It’s hard to trust Tracy, not only plugging him in from your bench but also the potential volume hit he could experience when Singletary returns. But, at this point, the Giants can’t put the genie back in the bottle… and neither should you. Just as an additional incentive for you: Tracy saw 23 touches this week, and turned them into 107 total yards and a score in a game the Giants only scored once and looked terrible almost everywhere else on O.
Fire up Tracy as a weekly flex option, even when Singletary returns and profit.
Bottom Line: He’s the #1 waiver priority for me this week, if available, and I’m exploring trades for him in redraft if managers are concerned about Singletary’s return.
Bijan Robinson Is Back as a Weekly RB1
Almost… but, unfortunately, not quite.
Currently, Bijan is the half ppr RB4 in Week 6, with a 105 total yards and 2 TDs. That’s excellent usage… except it isn’t:
Florio’s stats highlight exactly what we continue to be worried about: Tyler Allgeier. As you can see, Allgeier out carried Bijan and took a TD away from him as well. Granted the Falcons had this game well in hand in the second half, but Allgeier is vulturing Robinson’s opportunities throughout the game. This is not just a 4th quarter issue.
While we’re definitely firing up Bijan weekly, Allgeier will continue to be a thorn in the side of Robinson managers. It was great to see a breakout fantasy game from the current half ppr RB8 on the season, but he remains unable to consistently get there as a weekly RB1.
Bottom Line: Bijan looks great, but Allgeier should prevent him from hitting RB1 status most weeks, even though the schedule will cooperate from here on out.
THE Contender Buy This Season Is… Tony Pollard?
Yes. There is no doubt about it.
Pollard is the current half ppr RB18 on the season, and he did his thing again in Week 6. Though it won’t be cheap to acquire him at this point, he’s absolutely worth whatever capital you’re willing to throw at him.
I fully understand that this clip is against the sieve that is the Indianapolis Colts defense, but it’s still impressive nonetheless:
But it’s not what Pollard has already done that should have fantasy managers hot and bothered. It’s what he’s about to do. In Week 7, he’ll do it to the Bills horrendous run D, but then things get tough. Where you want to see him thrive is in the fantasy playoffs. And thrive he will.
Pollard faces the Jags in Week 14 to help you get in or assure your playoff bye. Then it’s Cincinnati, Indianapolis again and Jacksonville again to finish out the fantasy season. That’s four matchups in a row that are basically the best you could hope for during a playoff run. Pollard is a must-buy for contenders.
Bottom Line: Ride him next week, but mostly save him for when it counts the most. He’s nearly worth a 1st rounder, but you can probably get him for a 2nd+.
The Tight End Wasteland Is Finally Bearing Fruit
It is! Thank the sweet lord!
Outside of Cole Kmet – who has been fantasy and reality awesome this season – the top of the Week 6 TE leaderboard is, well, normal looking. For what feels like first time this season, all the guys we expect to see at the top are there. Only Kyle Pitts (though he still put up 70 yards), David Njoku and Jake Ferguson were relative busts this week.
Oh, and the much maligned Mark Andrews? He’s currently the half ppr TE3 on the week:
The usage is not what we want to see, but the production has been there for Andrews. And while he’s been looking a little rough around the edges this season, he still managed a respectable 4 for 55 in Week 5. Now he’s followed it up with what is sure to be a top 5 finish at the position.
All that’s left for us to see this week is Dalton Kincaid have a nice Monday night and the TE wasteland will look downright bountiful. Will it happen against a tough Jets D? I’m not sure, but I’m not about to bet against it this week.
Bottom Line: TEs are back and they are buys. Get yourself a Kyle Pitts, Mark Andrews or even Dalton Kincaid before it’s too late.
Stefon Diggs Is THE Texans WR to Own in 2024
This is true.
We love Tank Dell. Who doesn’t? But after a rocky start to the season, he produced well in Week 6, even though his separation was lacking. However, against an average Patriots secondary, he performed well:
But we’re talking about Diggs here. Diggs almost scored twice yesterday, but he still managed a 6 for 77 and 1 line. That has him standing at the half ppr WR11 this week with one game left to play. But the Diggs targets have been consistent. In fact, he’s only seen fewer than the 7 targets he earned yesterday in Weeks 1 and 2 of the season. His stock is on the rise with Nico out, and he is the de facto #1 when not covered by Christian Gonzalez, who he scored on this week.
Though Dell is very involved, notice Diggs has 10% more air yards and nearly double the yards per target than Dell. That leads to more yards from a great QB like CJ Stroud, and it means Diggs is the WR to own in Houston, probably for the rest of the season.
Bottom Line: Nico Collins will be out for at least the next 3 weeks. Then, he could be limited. It’s the Stefon Diggs show all season long. And the schedule is very friendly.
