Rookie Profile: Frank Gore Jr, Running Back, Buffalo Bills

Welcome to the Rookie Profile: Frank Gore Jr, a running back from Miami, Florida. At Miami Killian Senior High School, Gore played QB and RB, eventually becoming a 3-star recruit. After originally committing to Florida Atlantic University, Gore ended up at the University of Southern Mississippi.

At Southern Miss, Gore became the starting running back immediately as a freshman. While he put up modest numbers in his freshman and sophomore seasons, Gore broke out in his third full year and built on his gaudy numbers in his fourth year as a redshirt junior. In his final two seasons, Gore compiled 2513 rushing yards, 440 receiving yards, and 22 total touchdowns.

Given his collegiate production and pedigree, Gore is expected to be drafted on Day 3 of this year’s NFL Draft. If he can overcome his size limitations and step up to a new level of competition, he could stick to a team and make an impact in the near future.

Draft Capital & Landing Spot

Draft Capital- Undrafted Free Agent

  • The fact that Gore was not one of the 19 running backs drafted in this year’s NFL Draft suggests that he’s unlikely to make his mark at the next level. It is likely his pedigree that led to his signing by an NFL team.

Landing Spot- Buffalo Bills

  • The Bills at least have space in their RB room for a back to come in and surprise. Gore has the potential to become the #2 in Buffalo, though the #3 is more achievable with fellow rookie Ray Davis taken by the team in the 4th round.
  • It’s not an impossible achievement to earn work in this backfield given what stands in front of him. The bigger issue will be whether or not he can overcome his diminutive size to succeed against bigger, more athletic competition.

Fantasy Impact

It’s hard to envision much of a role for Gore on the Bills or anywhere else in the league. It’s likely he earns a couple of chances given the player his father was, though Gore’s lack of size and athleticism will severely limit his role and opportunities beyond what his name will earn him. He’ll remain on the waiver wire and off of all my rosters until further notice.
