Rookie Profile: Jordan Travis

Rookie Profile: Jordan Travis, Quarterback, New York Jets

Welcome to the Rookie Profile: Jordan Travis was a 3-star prospect out of The Benjamin School in North Palm Beach, Florida. Originally Travis committed to Louisville. But after one season he transferred to Florida State

In 2021 he would see action in at least 10 games. The first time in his collegiate career. This was also his 4th season in college. In 2021 he had 62.9% completion for 1,539 yards and 530 rushing yards.

The following year would become his best season. Travis had a 64% completion rate. Plus, he threw for 3,214 yards with 417 yards on the ground.

His final season at Florida State was looking great. Honestly, he was in the Heisman talk. However, he ended up breaking his leg towards the end of the season. The team was not the same after he went down. Before the injury, he threw for 2,756 yards with 63.9% completion.

Draft Capital & Landing Spot

Draft Capital- Round 5 Pick 36 (171)

  • I absolutely love this pick by the New York Jets. This was a potential steal of the draft, as the New York Jets might have landed their franchise quarterback post Aaron Rodgers.
  • Some may see the draft capital and shy away from drafting Travis, however, it is good to note that he potentially slipped down the draft board due to his season ending injury. Travis suffered a leg fracture that ended his season which also derailed Florida State’s playoff hopes. However, prior to his injury Travis led Florida State to an undefeated season with confidence and athleticism. Had he not been injured there is possibility that he would have been the 7th quarterback taken in the first round, or a day 2 pick.

Landing Spot- New York Jets

  • Jordan Travis could not have landed in a better spot. Yes, this team has Aaron Rodgers, but let us be real Rodgers is closer to the end then the beginning. The team needs a quarterback to be the leader one he retires.
  • The team did bring in Tyrod Taylor, who is a streaming quarterback for your fantasy teams if in desperate need and nothing more. Travis when healthy will push for that back up role, and eventually have the opportunity to start post-Rodgers.

Fantasy Impact

Right now, Travis is nothing more than a taxi squad player. His draft capital gives me hope that he will get at least a shot if anything were to happen to Aaron Rodgers. We saw last year that Rodgers went down within the first few minutes of the first game. Does that happen again? I hope not, as Aaron Rodgers is an elite quarterback that elevates every offensive weapon he is around. (I have a lot of shares of Malachi Corley)

But with that being said with the Jets drafting Travis in the 5th round gives me hope that they believe in him. I am not sure on the timetable of his return, as the leg injury was significant at the time. I do not want him to be rushed back since he is a quarterback that is willing to extend the play with his feet. Everybody loves Jayden Daniels, and those same people should love Jordan Travis for the upside he could bring once healthy. Draft him late with potential low-end QB2 upside if he gets the start. No, he will not beat out Aaron Rodgers, but he most definitely can beat out Tyrod Taylor. This would make him the guy once Aaron Rodgers is no longer the Jets quarterback. Jordan Travis could be the steal of your rookie drafts.
