Rookie Profile: Xavier Legette, Wide Receiver, Denver Broncos
Welcome to the Rookie Profile for Xavier Legette, a Wide Receiver from South Carolina. He is from Mullins, South Carolina, and was a 4-star recruit out of Mullins High School.
In 2019, as a freshman at South Carolina, he appeared in 11 games and struggled to produce. His end-of-season stat line was 9 receptions for 80 receiving yards and 1 touchdown. His 2020 sophomore season was equally as unimpressive. In 6 games for South Carolina, he caught 7 receptions for 113 receiving yards and 0 touchdowns.
His 2021 and 2022 seasons were no better as he struggled to prove himself. In 2021, as a junior, he caught 8 passes for 63 yards and 1 touchdown in 11 games and followed that up with 18 receptions for 167 yards and 3 touchdowns in 13 games, easily his best season to that point.
After four full seasons with the Gamecocks that saw him net a total of 42 receptions for 423 Receiving yards and 5 touchdowns in 41 games, he finally broke out in 2023 as a fifth-year senior. In 12 games, Legette recorded 71 catches for 1,255 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns.

Draft Capital & Landing Spot
Draft Capital- Round 1 Pick 32
- Legette has solid size and speed but wasn’t exactly a superstar during his college career. So, it was shocking when the Carolina Panthers traded up to snag him in the first round. This is a lofty investment into a player many regarded as a third-round pick.
- This draft capital makes him a very intriguing option as his cost is going to rise despite his talent not being any different than it was pre-draft. The Panthers have made some interesting draft picks, to say the least, let’s hope for Legette’s sake that they have better luck this time around.
Landing Spot- Carolina Panthers
- The Carolina Panthers are a mixed bag of a landing spot. On one hand, he lands on a roster with nothing but opportunity. Diontae Johnson is the only real threat to take targets away from him which gives him some great upset. The downside is that it’s unclear whether or not this Panthers offense can turn things around and be a salvageable passing game.
- Legette’s landing spot concern hinges almost as much on whether Bryce Young can develop as it does if he can develop.

Fantasy Impact
If you select Legette on the 1/2 turn of your rookie draft, you are certainly swinging for the fences. He has the potential to develop into an Alpha WR1 and be the number one on this Panther’s offense that could take a step forward this season.
He could also be a repeat of last season’s Jonathan Mingo pick and find himself totally off the fantasy football radar after another season of Bryce Young‘s struggles.
Before you take this shot, you have to decide if you believe in Young and Legette and go from there. The potential is obvious, but so is the risk.
