2024 Exclusive Sneak Peek: Blake Corum, RB Michigan

Welcome to the Exclusive Sneak Peek: Blake Corum, a Running Back from Michigan. He is from Marshall, Virginia, and was a 4-star recruit out of St. Frances Academy.

In 2020, as a freshman, he appeared in 6 games where he recorded 77 rushing yards and 2 rushing touchdowns while adding in 5 receptions for 73 yards in a COVID-19-shortened season.

His 2021 season as a sophomore saw him appear in 12 games where he saw a significant boost in production. He rushed for 952 yards and 11 touchdowns while also chipping in 24 receptions for 141 yards and 1 touchdown, the best receiving season of his collegiate career.

As a junior in 2022, he appeared in 12 games and produced his high rushing total with 1,463 yards while scoring 18 rushing touchdowns. Once again, he chipped in a minimal amount in the passing game with 11 receptions for 80 yards and 1 touchdown. This spectacular season came to a premature end as he went down to a season-ending injury in the regular season finale against Ohio State.

His final collegiate season was as a senior in 2023. He appeared in 12 games and produced another fine stat line. While his rushing yards dipped slightly to 1,245 yards, his rushing touchdown total exploded to a whopping 27 on route to leading Michigan to a 2024 National Championship. He again, added in a pedestrian 16 receptions for 117 yards and 1 touchdown through the air.

Scouting Reports

  • Has excellent vision and ability to find and hit the holes effectively.
  • Is versatile enough to play in both zone and power run schemes.
  • He’s a compact and powerful runner who is great at keeping his legs churning.
  • Has home run-hitting ability with great burst and explosiveness. A great combination of quick twitch and speed.

  • He lacks ability and technique in pass protection. Frequently misses his assignments.
  • Durability issues are a concern. His injury history could prevent him from being a bell-cow back in the NFL.
  • Is not a between-the-tackles runner and may not be suited to goalline work or third-down carries.
  • Possesses limited receiving upside. He runs a basic route tree and is only marginally effective in the passing game.

Pre-Draft Analysis

Expected Draft Capital: Round 2

Ideal Landing Spot: Los Angeles Chargers

This seems like the best fit for the 2024 NFL Draft. The Los Angeles Chargers need a running back to sit on the throne after it’s vacated by the aging Austin Ekeler and with the hiring of new head coach Jim Harbaugh, it’s a perfect fit.

The tie here is that Harbaugh and Corum just won a National Championship together at Michigan, so reuniting in Los Angeles is a match made in heaven.

As a Michigan fan myself, I have often criticized Harbuagh’s usage of Corum in the Michigan offense, but in the end, he was successful, so the play here is to have faith that he knows what he’s doing.

Corum may not be the second coming of Ekeler, but he could have a notable career with his old college coach.

Pick 3.83 to the Los Angeles Rams
