2024 Exclusive Sneak Peek: Trey Benson, RB Florida St
Welcome to the Exclusive Sneak Peek: Trey Benson, a Running Back from Florida State. He is from Greensville, Mississippi, and was a 3-star recruit out of Greensville High School.
Benson’s collegiate career got off to a rocky start and almost ended before it began. In 2020 as a member of the Oregon Ducks he tore his ACL, MCL, and LCL and missed the entire season.
His 2021 season as a freshman saw him appear in 10 games for the Ducks where he recorded 22 yards and 1 touchdown on limited carries. His lack of opportunities led him to transfer to Florida State for the 2022 season.
In 2022 as a sophomore, he played in 13 games for Florida State and rushed for 990 yards and 9 touchdowns. He chipped in 227 receiving yards and 1 receiving touchdown in a true breakout season in his first year as a full-time player.
His final collegiate season was as a junior in 2023 for the Seminoles where he again appeared in 13 games and racked up 906 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns. He also added 371 receiving yards and 1 touchdown through the air before declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft.

Scouting Reports
Strengths
- Possesses incredible long speed. An instant home run threat every time he touches the ball.
- Has excellent burst and acceleration as well as good downhill physicality.
- He has great strength and contact balance and runs angry.
- Is a natural pass-catcher with soft and reliable hands.
Weaknesses
- His stiff movements and limited agility make him awkward in tight spaces.
- He plays to contact which will increase his already high injury risk.
- Will need to refine his pass protection techniques to not be a total liability.
- Massive injury red flags. Tore ACL, MCL, and LCL as a freshman and may have durability issues.
Pre-Draft Analysis
Expected Draft Capital: Late Round 2/Early Round 3
Ideal Landing Spot: Cincinnati Bengals
If it weren’t for concerns regarding his injury history, it’s entirely possible that Benson would be a first-round pick. Instead, he is likely to go somewhere towards the back end of Day 2.
The Cincinnati Bengals are nearing the end of their run with veteran running back Joe Mixon and will need a replacement shortly. They already have Chase Brown but need a bigger and faster back to be the workhorse.
Benson could form a solid running back tandem with Brown should the Bengals pull the trigger on his selection on Day 2.
Post-Draft Analysis
