Rookie Profile: Cooper DeJean, Cornerback, Philadelphia Eagles

Welcome to the Rookie Profile for Cooper DeJean, a Cornerback from Iowa. He is from Odebolt, Iowa, and was a 3-star recruit out of Battle Creek-Ida Grove High School.

DeJean started his collegiate career as a member of the Iowa Hawkeyes as a part-time player, appearing in only 7 games with limited snaps.

He saw a significant increase in playing time in his Sophomore season where he played in 13 games. In that season, he racked up admirable numbers with 56 solo tackles, 19 assists, and 5 interceptions.

DeJean’s stats took a small step back as he recorded only 26 solo tackles, 15 assists, and 2 interceptions. Despite this dip in production, he was named a Consensus All-American for the 2023 season.

Cooper DeJean

Draft Capital & Landing Spot

Draft Capital- Round 2 Pick 8

  • DeJean was a player who was projected to be a potential first-round pick, but with the record-breaking run on quarterbacks to kick off the draft, many elite defenders fell 10-20 picks further than they should have. DeJean was a perfect example of an elite defensive player who should have never made it out of the top 20 but instead ended up as a Day Two pick.

Landing Spot- Philadelphia Eagles

  • The Eagles are a near-perfect landing spot. Whether it be through injury, free agency, or retirement, the Eagles have lost a significant portion of their once fierce defense that culminated in them being an embarrassing squad to close out the 2023 season. They invested heavily on the defensive side of the ball at the draft and should be a new-looking team. DeJean should be one of the most productive members of a defensive squad that has the potential to be a Legion of Boom level unit very shortly.

Fantasy Impact

DeJean is a ball-hawking corner and should fit into this Eagle’s secondary very nicely. He should find his way into the role of starting quarterback from the beginning of his rookie season. He should be a consistent, high-level producer for years to come. DeJean should find himself as a mid-to-late first-round pick in IDP Rookie Drafts and will be a highly sought-after IDP asset.
