Rookie Profile: Dylan Laube, Running Back, Las Vegas Raiders

Welcome to the Rookie Profile: Dylan Laube, a running back out of Westhampton Beach High School in Westhampton, New York. In high school, Laube recorded over 7600 combined rushing and receiving yards and 120 total touchdowns. However, even with this impressive production, he was only offered one scholarship by the University of New Hampshire.

Laube attended New Hampshire and continued his onslaught of lesser competition. In his final two collegiate seasons, Laube posted 1920 rushing yards, 667 receiving yards and 22 touchdowns. He also led all of the FCS in all-purpose yards in both seasons.

Laube represents a true unknown, but he’s certainly earned his invites to the Senior Bowl and NFL Combine due to his stellar play and dominance at every level. If he can make the jump, he could be a true weapon in the receiving game for an NFL team.

Draft Capital & Landing Spot

Draft Capital- Round 6, Pick 32

  • As the last pick of the sixth round, Laube doesn’t boast much capital. However, he was drafted, giving him some insulation and stability over popular UDFA’s like Denver’s Blake Watson.
  • Laube is the ultimate dart throw from a relatively unknown program, but he flashed at the Senior Bowl and on tape, making this selection a positive sign for his long-term viability.

Landing Spot- Las Vegas Raiders

  • The Raiders are actually a great spot for Laube. They no longer have an established backfield presence after the exit of Josh Jacobs, and they have a need for a 3rd down pass catching RB. Laube can come in immediately as a special teamer and find a role by late this year as a passing down specialist.
  • The Raiders are a team in flux, which actually bodes well for Laube. If he had gone to a contender with a need like the Chiefs, he might have been run out of town if he didn’t produce immediately. Now he has the time to develop on a team nowhere near competitive in the short term.

Fantasy Impact

Laube is a clear dart throw for fantasy, but it’s a dart I’m comfortable throwing in the 4th round of dynasty rookie drafts. I won’t touch him in redraft, but he has some ultra late round appeal in dynasty startups as well. The player himself is a long shot to stick, but we’ve seen less productive prospects beat out the likes of Alexander Mattison and Ameer Abdullah. As a result, Laube could quickly become the #2 RB in Las Vegas.

If I’m rostering him anywhere, it’s because I can afford to be patient. Otherwise, I’ll wait til he’s dropped later on and fire off a speculative add to get him on the end of my bench where I have the room.
