Rookie Profile: Edgerrin Cooper, Linebacker, Green Bay Packers

Welcome to the Rookie profile: Edgerrin Cooper, was a 4-star prospect out of Covington High School in Covington, Louisiana. In his senior year of high school, he became a 2020 All-American Bowl Selection. He committed to Texas A&M in January of 2020.

Cooper saw limited action in his freshman season, only seeing action in 2 games. His sophomore year became a different story. Cooper played in every game acquiring 58 total tackles with one interception and one pass deflection.

The Aggie linebacker continued to improve as a defender. In his junior season, he had 61 total tackles with 5 pass deflections and one interception. He also had one fumble forced. The unfortunate part was he had zero sacks this season.

The senior year became the year Cooper left all on the field. He had a career-high in total tackles (84) and sacks (8). Cooper evolved into an anchor for the Aggie defense.

Draft Capital & Landing Spot

Draft Capital- Round 2 Pick 13 (45)

  • I love this landing spot for Cooper. The Packers released De’Vondre Campbell, and were in desperate need of run support. They chose to protect their quarterback Jordan Love by drafting an offensive lineman in the first round.
  • This pick was their first of two picks in the second-round and they chose Cooper. A versatile linebacker that should see playing time immediately.

Landing Spot- Green Bay Packers

  • Cooper will start for the Packers. They needed help at the linebacker position and drafted one that can play both inside and out.
  • He can drop into coverage or play off the edge adding pressure on any offense. In a division that has great wide receivers adding pressure on the quarterbacks is a must have for any NFC North defense.

Fantasy Impact

Even though he was not a first-round draft pick he should be treated as such. The Packers invested heavily in him. This tells me he will see the field early and likely become an impact player for the team. Cooper is a linebacker with excellent ball tracking skills. This is good for IDP leagues because it means he should see is fair share of tackles. Plus, he knows how to get after the quarterback meaning he should be able to gain some sacks too. Edgerrin Cooper could get 70+ tackles with 6+ sacks in his rookie season. He should be one of the top 3 linebackers off the board in your rookie drafts.
