Rookie Profile: Kamari Lassiter

Rookie Profile: Kamari Lassiter, Cornerback, Houston Texans

Welcome to the Rookie Profile for Kamari Lassiter, a safety out of Georgia. He is from Savannah, Georgia, and was a 4-star recruit from American Christian Academy.

Lassiter was a highly touted four-sport athlete coming out of high school before joining the Bulldogs for his freshman season in 2021. His true freshman season was spent primarily on special teams and his contributions were minimal before being promoted to a full-time defender for his sophomore season.

In 2022 as a sophomore he again appeared in 15 games and hit the ground running. He racked up 30 solo tackles, 8 assists, 5 tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, and 4 passes defended in his first season as a full-time defender.

He produced solidly again as a junior in 2023 where he appeared in 14 games. During that time he recorded 21 solo tackles, 16 assists, 3.5 tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, and 8 passes defended and demonstrated an ability to be a reliable member of the secondary.

Measurables

Draft Capital & Landing Spot

Draft Capital- Round 2 Pick 10

  • Lassiter was one of the more talented cornerbacks in this rookie class and despite a run on the position to close out the first round, he found himself slipping to the start of the second. Second-round draft capital is still a significant investment. It’s an indication that the Texans see him as a foundational defender.

Landing Spot- Houston Texans

  • The Texans aren’t a terrible landing spot, but they aren’t a great one either. Houston is a young team trending up, but it could take time for Lassiter to crack a talented roster.
  • The Texans did lose some big-name defenders this offseason to free agency, so it leaves slightly more room for Lassiter to crack the lineup, but Houston still has plenty of talent he will need to beat out to become and every-down player.

Fantasy Impact

Kamari Lassiter has lots of long-term potential, but he could be a player that will require some patience before he ever sees significant production. When he does crack the Texan’s lineup, he will be an impact player in the secondary, but it will take some time.

He is likely to be a third-round pick in IDP rookie drafts and is a worthwhile stash, but don’t expect immediate production out of him for fantasy.
