Rookie Profile: T’Vondre Sweat

Rookie Profile: T’Vondre Sweat, Defensive Tackle, Tennessee Titans

Welcome to the Rookie Profile: T’Vondre Sweat was a 3-star prospect coming out of Huntsville High School in Huntsville, Texas. As a senior, he helped get Huntsville High School to the 5A Division-2 quarterfinals. In February of 2018, he committed to the University of Texas.

He immediately saw some playing time in his freshman season. Although his impact was not truly seen just yet. As a freshman, he only had 2 total pressures with 9 total tackles.

In his sophomore season, Covid year, he did see an uptick in pressures with 11 total. Plus, he found the ball more with 22 total tackles. In his third year, he saw another season with 22 total tackles. However, this year he only had 3 total pressures.

As a redshirt junior Sweat started to make his presence known on the field. He had 22 total pressures with 20 total tackles and 4 pass deflections.

But his senior year would become his best collegiate season. The upside is he continued to improve year over year into a better defender anchoring the defensive line. As a senior, he had 45 total tackles with 5 pass deflections and 2 sacks. In addition, to his 31 total pressures! Oh, and he caught a 2 yard pass for a touchdown.

Measurables

Draft Capital & Landing Spot

Draft Capital- Round 2 Pick 6 (38)

  • “We are the Titans! The mighty mighty Titans! No one can stop us!” The Titans built up their defense in this draft. Sweat in round 2 was their biggest investment.
  • The draft capital says they want to use Sweat as an anchor of the defensive line. His big body will plug up holes making teams become one dimensional.

Landing Spot- Tennessee Titans

  • “Big Texas” will step into Tennessee as a power-house run stopper. He should be able to step in to become an immediate starter for the team.
  • The Titans needed some help in their run defense. It seems they got their guy in Sweat to play alongside Jeffery Simmons. They will create a fearful piece to the Titans run defense.

Fantasy Impact

Defensive tackles do not get much love in terms of fantasy production. Although Sweat will likely be a key part in the Titans success this season his fantasy impact will be low. He will cause teams to shift their offensive schemes in hopes of avoiding him at all cost. This means he will not put up the points we want for fantasy. T’Vondre Sweat, like most defensive tackles, will be a great real-life player. On the other hand, he will hold little to no value in fantasy, at least in year one.

There is a realm where he generates multiple sacks and gains 30-40 tackles by stopping runners up the middle. However, with his big frame I expect him to be more of player that attracts double teams allowing his teammates to make the play. His impact on the field will be noticed to viewers watching his games, but it probably will not translate over to the fantasy production we want. If you are drafting him late or picking him up off waiver wires then he should be on your taxi squads year one.
