Welcome to the Rookie Profile: Sam Hartman, a Quarterback from Charlotte, NC who attended Oceanside Collegiate Academy High School. Hartman was a 3-star recruit and attended Notre Dame.
Hartman began his collegiate career in 2018 at Wake Forest. As a freshman, he appeared in nine games and threw for 1,981 yards with 16 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. He followed that up in 209 with 830 passing yards for 4 touchdowns and 2 interceptions in the Covid-19-shortened season.
In 2020 as a sophomore he played in 9 games where he threw for 2,224 yards with 13 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. He repeated that performance in 2021, playing in 14 games. In that season he threw for 4,228 yards with 39 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
His final season with Wake Forest came in 2022 as a junior where he appeared in 12 games. He threw for 3,701 yards with 38 touchdowns and 12 interceptions before transferring to the University of Notre Dame for his senior year.
In 2023 at the University of Notre Dame, he appeared in 12 games. He threw for 2,689 yards with 24 touchdowns and 8 interceptions before deciding to enter the 2024 NFL Draft.

- Hartman going undrafted was a surprise, but with so many teams going quarterback early in the draft, there weren’t too many suitors left for him. Still, going undrafted is supremely disappointing.
- Hartman was expected to sneak into the final round of the draft as a potential Mr. Irrelevant, but when your best quality as a quarterback is your hair, it’s easy to see why he went undrafted.
Landing Spot- Washington Commanders
- The Commanders just used a top-five pick on Jayden Daniels after moving on from Sam Howell. It’s not out of the realm of possibilities that Daniels could struggle and the Commanders would turn to a backup while he develops, but for them to turn to Hartman would be an episode straight out of The Twilight Zone.
- Consider Hartman an emergency quarterback on this roster for the future.

Fantasy Impact
The fantasy impact essentially death. No draft capital, a high pick in front of him on the depth chart, and another veteran to take the backup role from him. There was always a low percentage chance of Hartman being fantasy-relevant, but this is pretty close to the end of his fantasy career unless it’s as a fantasy football manager.
